Here lies a great collection of snaps from Afghanistan circa 1933. It almost appears as though nothing has changed in 70 years.
While I’m here I might as well provide you with a linkfest (all of them come from my mother who obviously has way too much time on her hands). A Spinal Tap timeline. Why stop there? This site has every possible timeline you can think of. Literally hundreds of them to look at and waste valuble time on.
Do you feel like getting a bag of chips, chocolate bar and a flavoured milk. Do it at a milk bar for christ’s sake! This person has photographed, documented and analysed the significance of milk bars in Australian society.
There you go. Many hours of interesting reading. Have fun!

How weird is this story? A bloke who received a liver has inherited an allergy (to peanuts) from the dead donor.

Sport is a love of mine. I’ve played cricket on and off for 20 of my 30 years and watched it for 26 odd years. The same goes for Aussie Rules football, although I haven’t played too many games. Whenever there’s some major sporting event on TV, even curling, I’ll watch it. Seeing people compete at a high level is satisfying to watch. This morning (and into the afternoon) I’ve been trying to watch the Superbowl. I’ve tried to watch it each year but just cannot get into it. To me the game seems to be far too disjointed. As I write it’s 3½ hours after the kick off and the 4th quarter has only just started.
The half time entertainment consisted of Shania Twain jiggling her boobies and Gwen Steffani flexing her abs and pointing her arse at the cameras. I can’t really knock that though – the AFL had Angry Anderson do a lap of the MCG in a replica batmobile a few years ago. I suppose the greatest hope I have is that during the Superbowl, George W. Bush fails to chew a few oversized pretzels while pissing it up in his presidential recliner.
Like Graham, I too now realise why I don’t listen to JJJ anymore. The top 20 or 30 tunes were a little ordinary. Mind you, around 12 years ago it finally dawned upon me that the top 20 of any music chart is generally not what I like listening to. I can’t help it. I just like weird shit.
The Big Day Out hits Melbourne today. Like last year, I’m not going as I’m sick of getting hit in the head with water bottles and standing in a 20 metre line just to have a piss…and a 50 metre line to pay $5 for a light beer. I have a fairly well known JJJ presenter/producer living in my spare room at present and was offered a VIP media pass for the day. Imagine the scoops I could’ve got for this blog (for instance, Polly Jean Harvey likes vodka and apricot juice and The Hard Ons are to old to get hard ons). As tempting as that was, I still said no and offered the pass to Belinda instead (my fiancee). Aren’t I a nice fella? I don’t think so, I think I’m nuts.

The second hottest day ever recorded in Melbourne knocked me around a little. I hope we don’t have another 45 degree day again though – it was pretty damn oppressive.
Shit! I forgot to recite the Australia Day ‘oath’ today.

Can’t afford the latest PC games. Who give a flying fug? Just play this fantastic platform game (it might take a while to load – be patient).

Once again the slack factor is taking over and entries are scarce. It’s not because I couldn’t be bothered, it’s because everything is annoying me at the moment. I’d rather pull my head in and not bother the few people who read this with nonsensical bull-shite.
One event that is definately not shite is the first homebrew for the year having been started (Coopers brews for the time being). The hallway is nice and cool and so I decided it would be a perfect host for a 21 litre tub of yeast, hops and sugar. Visitors are being freaked out by a container of gurgling liquid upon entrance to the house though. Nevermind. They’ll be freaking out sometime in May when I eventually fill 400 x 750ml bottles with pilseners, lagers, dark and light ales stouts and bitters. I might have a shindig and see how many homebrews can be consumed in one evening. Let me know if you approve of the idea and I’ll consider sending an invitation.

For a good look at the fires in South Eastern Australia, NASA has a great website devoted to fire and maritime satellite imagery. I can’t help it! I love satellite photos. They put things in perspective. In this case it shows just how fucking huge these fires are.

Darren Lehmann out for five games. Should’ve got many more. Earlier this cricket season in the competition my cricket club plays in a delightful young man was suspended for 2 seasons for a racist outburst in the field of play. If an amateur organisation takes such a hard line, why can’t a body representing WORLD cricket come down harder on dickheads with no self control or respect for their opposition. And they dropped Mark Waugh for him! Gurglephuzz….
As if I didn’t already watch too much television. Tonight, cable television treated me to a screening of ‘Almost Famous,’ directed by Cameron Crowe. It’s been a while since I watched a film from beginning to end. It wasn’t bad. Basically it was Cameron Crowe’s story of breaking into rock journalism at the age of 15. His website has loads of his articles, notes and other stuff to read…some of it pretty interesting.
Oh, and happy 1000th Graham.

Far be it from me to generalise for everyone but the start to this working year seems incredibly busy. Traditionally January is ’slackers month.’ During slackers month things are quiet, you can make extended visits to local businesses during lunch breaks and play mind numbingly entertaining computer games in the office for at least 6 hours per day. This year has been non-stop for me so far with about the same amount of overtime completed to date as I had done for the whole of last year. What’s wrong? Has the world gone crazy? The god of productivity must be happy.

It’s too hot. Far too hot, and I have submitted to the lure of air conditioning. On the wall of the living room in my crappy rental house has been sitting a gigantic air-conditioning unit. I hate the things only because of the nasty effect they tend to have on elecricity bills. The noise they make is horrendous as well. I don’t like to be known as a noisy neighbour but 35 degrees at 10pm is just too much.
Bugger the blog. I might sit back and watch Ozzy Osbourne for the rest of the night. (I thought MTV stood for Music Television. All that’s on is fly on the wall television and gameshows).
Said…
