the antique road show

This afternoon I got home from work after a particularly frustrating day and turned the radio on. My tuner rarely leaves 102.7, 106.7, 774am (footy and news) or 1026am (newsradio – for wierd infoboffins like me). I flicked through these stations and felt like something different. A CD wasn’t an option, I just felt like someone playing ME some music. So I turned to iTuner and looked for a decent radio station to listen to while I chilled out with beer and a tuna salad (yeah, a strange yet satisfying mix of beverage and healthy food). I settled upon listening to a dude doing the graveyard shift somewhere in Long Island, New York. He couldn’t speak properly. It was either from tiredness or the bong he’d just sucked on. At around 6pm tonight (4am New York time) I heard him back-announce the last 6 songs that he had played. There was some very cool stuff, PIL remixes and a mob called Black Box Recorder with a song called The Facts of Life. I was sucked in by these few songs and when the DJ (J.Ro) called for requests to be called in, I obliged. I ended up getting a whole 30 minute set of Björk played just for me – from the other side of the world. That weirded me out a little bit. The fact that I asked for a Björk medley weirded me out a little more. I could’ve picked heaps of other artists. Oh well.

So anyway, if you like independent music, alternative news and hate hearing advertisments (this station is non-commercial and listener funded)…have a listen to WUSB Radio Free Long Island.
